Minn Kota introduces Universal Sonar 2, the next generation of Universal Sonar that includes new features designed to give anglers more tools to find and catch fish – water temperature sensing and dual beam sonar capability. “When we first introduced Universal Sonar in 2001, it was groundbreaking technology,” Minn Kota Brand Manager Joe Brown said. “Not only did Universal Sonar provide integrated and protected transducer and cables, it was also compatible with most major brands of fishfinders. Now with the addition of water temperature sensing and dual beam sonar compatibility on Universal Sonar 2, we are giving anglers more tools to find and catch fish.” Universal Sonar 2 integrates the dual beam sonar transducer in the lower unit of the motor and routes the cables inside the shaft to provide protection and reduce rigging clutter. Universal Sonar 2 is compatible with most major brands of fishfinders (both single and dual beam sonar capabilities) with the appropriate adapter cable. The temperature sensor for Universal Sonar 2 is located in the lower unit of the trolling motor and displays water temperature on all major brands of fishfinders that offer this feature. Universal Sonar 2 also utilizes new specially shielded waterproof connectors that greatly reduce the possibility of sonar interference. The new transducer also allows Universal Sonar 2 to fully capitalize on the exclusive DualBeam PLUS sonar technology found on select models of Humminbird fishfinders. DualBeam PLUS has 83kHz and 200kHz sonar beams that can be displayed separately, together on a split screen or combined as one display. The two beams provide wider coverage and more bottom detail than a single beam. Universal Sonar 2 also offers dual beam compatibility with select models of Lowrance, Eagle and Garmin fishfinders. Universal Sonar 2 is available as an optional feature on select models of Minn Kota Terrova, PowerDrive V2, Maxxum Pro and Maxxum bow-mount motors. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the optional Universal Sonar 2 feature is $100 and will be available to consumers beginning in October of 2006.
