Minn Kota introduces a new line of trim tab products featuring a proprietary tab design that generates more lift than a conventional flat metal tab. “Having the ability to get your boat up on plane quickly is one of the main benefits of trim tabs,” Minn Kota Brand Manager of New Product Development and Accessories Jeff Davison said. “Quick hole-shots provide faster acceleration and improved fuel economy.” Using a tab made of a composite material, Minn Kota has engineered an innovative contoured shape that effectively increases the surface area that is in contact with the water to generate additional lift. In addition, flared edges channel water down the length of the tab for added lift performance. The injection molded tab design uses a high performance structural-grade composite that is exceptionally strong. Besides being highly durable, the material will not corrode or rust which is especially important in saltwater. The trim tabs will be offered in two cord (front-to-back measurement) lengths of 9 inches and 12 inches, and three span (side-to-side measurement) lengths of 9 inches, 12 inches and 18 inches. Minn Kota’s electro-mechanical actuators feature a new 12-volt motor and gear system that is sealed inside each actuator housing. This new motor and gear system delivers precise tab adjustments while operating considerably quieter than other comparable electric actuators. In addition, the actuators have received an Ingress Protection rating of IP68, meaning they have been designed to the highest waterproof standard in the industry. Minn Kota will offer actuators in two sizes: standard-stroke designed for boats with a minimum transom height of 15 inches, and short-stroke designed for boats with a minimum transom height of 11 inches. The Minn Kota Soft-Touch Rocker Switch has up/down buttons that operate each tab independently. Also features a sealed, soft-touch face plate and waterproof connection plug on the back side. The demand for trim tabs in both freshwater and saltwater is on the rise because of the benefits they offer, including faster acceleration, improved fuel economy, and the ability to correct boat performance issues such as porpoising and unwanted listing. Minn Kota trim tabs will be built at its manufacturing facility in Mankato, Minn. And will be available to saltwater and freshwater boat owners beginning in January 2007.
